Selected Works from the Art Collections at the University at Albany

January 25 through March 3, 2000
Curated by Corinna Ripps Schaming

Opening Reception:
Monday, Jan. 31, 5-7:30 p.m.

This is the first comprehensive look at the collections of the University at Albany Art Museum in its 30-year history. Curated from more than 3,000 works of contemporary art, Persuasive Images will feature prints, drawings, photographs, and artists’ books by 40 artists. Most of the works selected are on public view for the first time.

Spearheaded by the University Art Museum’s director, Marijo Dougherty, this exhibition is part of the museum’s ongoing mission to make the University’s permanent collection more accessible to students and to the community and to further its potential for scholarly and curatorial exploration.

Persuasive Images is curated by museum staff member Corinna Ripps Schaming. The exhibition reflects the museum’s interest in highlighting some of the most visually persuasive and culturally loaded works in the University’s collections.

An illustrated catalog with two curatorial essays is available upon request. The exhibition is funded in part by the University at Albany Foundation.

For further information please call Corinna Ripps Schaming at (518) 442-4038 or e-mail her at Corinna@cnsvax.albany.edu.
