Winter Progress

Western Avenue Roadway: The University has completed
construction of a short roadway linking the parking lots of two office
buildings on Western Avenue with Perimeter Road on the main campus. The
office buildings, at 2 University Place and 1215 Western Ave., are being
renovated for a move by about 300 University employees beginning in late
March or early April. Those employees currently occupy the Administration
Building, which will then be refitted for classroom and office space for
the College of Arts and Sciences.
University Police Department Headquarters: The move-in date for
the new UPD building, on the east side of campus, is June. The exterior
is now enclosed, and interior work is underway.
Life Sciences Building: Design review work for this major project
is now completed. The 160,000-square-foot project is expected to go out
to bid about July 1, with a projected completion date of 2004.
New Roofs on Academic Podium: In a related project, the
University will begin this June replacing the roofs of seven buildings
on the academic podium over the next three summers. There are three phases
to the $3.1 million roofing project.
Bids are due February 1 for Phase 1, which includes
roofs on the Education building and the Campus Center. Work is expected
to start in May and be completed by August. Bids are also due February
1 for Phase 2, which involves replacing the roofs of the Administration
building and the Library. This work is expected to be completed from May
to August of next year. Bids are due for the last phase of the work Oct.
15, 2001 for the cost of replacing the roofs of the Physics, Performing
Arts Center, and Earth Science buildings.
The existing roofs were originally installed when
the academic podium was completed in the late 1960s. |
