2001–2002
For Gifts Received Between July 1, 2001 & June 30, 2002

One is tempted to say that this past year has been an exceptional one for philanthropy at the University at Albany. There is a risk, however, of sounding repetitious.

For a number of years in a row, alumni, parents, friends, corporations, foundations and students have joined to provide increasingly substantial support for the University’s outstanding programs, scholars and students. In 2001-2002, we again experienced record-breaking support, as detailed elsewhere in this report.

Private support for a public university is a relatively new idea for many in the UAlbany family. But State support provides only about 20 percent of the University’s operating budget, and UAlbany’s growing stature makes possible extraordinary new opportunities. As a result, gift income is a central part of the University’s financial plan.

What you see here listed is a representation of the thousands of individuals, firms and organizations who provided the margin of excellence for UAlbany in 2001-2002. The number of donors has grown so large that not every name can be printed in this report, so you will find only the names of those who gave $100 or more between July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002.

Please understand, however, that every gift is important to the University. Each time we open an envelope and find a check, or receive notice of a stock transfer from the brokerage, or learn of a new planned gift, it encourages the University. We know that our mission – of providing the best possible educational experience to anyone who can benefit from it, regardless of class or income, of pressing forward the boundaries of knowledge, of sharing that knowledge with the broader world to improve our communities and our quality of life – is a noble one. And your tangible support, through gifts, tells us that you know how important this mission is.

To all our donors, we express our heartfelt thanks, for your gifts and for your encouragement!

The University at Albany is rightfully proud of its many accomplishments in teaching, research, discovery and community involvement over the past year. However, our accomplishments would have been seriously diminished without the support of the people and organizations listed herein. These are some of our partners, people whose vision of a better tomorrow for students and for our society is supported by their philanthropy.

In this report you will find listed all those who made gifts to the University of at least $100 received between July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002. (Note that contributions received after June 30, 2002 will be reported in the 2002-2003 Honor Roll of Donors.) While each gift is important to the University community, both useful in our unending pursuit of excellence and heartening in its endorsement of our efforts, we unfortunately have space in this publication too limited to list the many individual contributors below the $100 level. Please be assured, nevertheless, that the University is grateful for gifts of all sizes.

The Advancement staff has enjoyed reading through this list, recalling conversations and letters of support as we made every effort to ensure accuracy.

In compiling a list of this magnitude, however, errors are possible. We apologize for any misspellings or omissions, and request that you contact Valerie DiRocco-Ruskin, M.P.A.’95, director of Stewardship, at 518-437-4973 or vruskin@uamail.albany.edu to inform us of any discrepancies. Thank you for your understanding.
