University at Albany, established in 1844, is the oldest state-chartered
public institution of higher education in New York. Designated as a
University Center of the State University of New York, Albany has a
broad mission of undergraduate and graduate education, research and
public service. More than 16,000 students are enrolled in eight degree-granting
schools and colleges of the University, which is noted for its achievement
of both diversity and excellence.
