University at Albany, established in 1844, is the oldest state-chartered public institution of higher education in New York. Designated as a University Center of the State University of New York, Albany has a broad mission of undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service. More than 16,000 students are enrolled in eight degree-granting schools and colleges of the University, which is noted for its achievement of both diversity and excellence.
