Web Accessibility: If you use mathematical or scientific notation
View an accessible page using scientific
notation
View an inaccessible page using
scientific notation
-
If notation is placed as a graphic, include adequate ALT text or link to
a longer description so that a screen reader can read the equation correctly.
Where possible, use character entity references to create the mathematical
symbols.
-
If you use complex equations, consider marking them up with TeX or MathML
-
Consider short audio clips of the equation or notation.
-
Consult Teaching Math to Visually
Impaired Students, a Web site written by Susan A. Osterhaus, M.Ed.
of the Texas School for the Blind.
-
Check accessibility by viewing your page in multiple browsers and platforms,
then verify it with tools like CAST's on-line BOBBY
verification tool.
