Each priority permit holder is responsible for its proper use in compliance with University parking rules and regulations.
Handicapped
University members who have registered their vehicles and paid the comprehensive/parking fee are eligible for handicapped permits when authorized by the University Health Center. Individuals who qualify for New York State certification as disabled may occupy handicapped spaces with a valid University parking decal and a displayed NYS Handicap placard. Handicapped decals or dashboard passes are issued at no extra charge. Individuals parking in handicap spaces displaying a New York State certification placard, may be asked to verify ownership with the Office of Parking and Mass Transit Services.
It is against the law for an individual to display and use a New York State handicap hang tag that was not specifically issued to them. Violators will prosecuted accordingly.
Priority Special
These permits, which allow access to specially designated parking spaces, are issued three ways. All outstanding fines must be paid before a priority permit can be issued.
Special Permits
These permits, which allow access to specially designated parking spaces, are issued one of two ways as outlined below. All outstanding fines must be paid before a priority permit can be issued.
There are two separate Special Permit parking area designations on campus: "SPECIAL PERMIT ONLY - 24 HOURS" and "SPECIAL PERMIT, MONDAY - FRIDAY, 8AM TO 4PM".
Medical Special Permits
University members who have registered their vehicles and paid the comprehensive/parking fee are eligible for medical permits when authorized by the University Health Center. Medical permits are issued only upon authorization by the University Health Center and are valid for the necessary period of time. Individuals with medical permits may not occupy handicapped spaces. Medical special permits are issued at no extra charge.
Occupational Permits
A designated number of occupational permits is issued by Parking and Mass Transit Services to the Office of the President and to each Vice President for allocation within each University department. Applications must be signed by the respective Vice President or his/her administrative designee. Outstanding fines must be paid in full before a permit will be issued. There is no extra charge for occupational priority special permits.
Occupational permits will be awarded on the basis of established need of the individual to have access to his/her vehicle during normal business hours. Established need is generally construed to mean access to a vehicle three times daily for OFFICIAL purposes.
Individual Occupational Permits: These permits are assigned to individuals affiliated with the department or division for their exclusive use in parking in priority special areas.
Department Floater Permits: Floater occupational permits can be used at the discretion of each department, or administrative officer, for use by individuals conducting business with the department and by departmental personnel as needed.
University members using special permit floaters must also display a current University decal or hang tag on the vehicle. Floaters may ONLY be used for OFFICIAL University business. Floaters may be used by guests/visitors to allow them free campus parking.
Floater control log sheets MUST be maintained on a daily basis and Parking and Mass Transit Services reserves the right to inspect this log at any time to determine if floaters are being used properly. If a ticket is received while the floater permit is properly displayed, the ticket, the floater and the log sheet should be taken to Parking and Mass Transit Services, the same day.
Loading/Unloading Passes
Special Permit Loading/Unloading passes are issued for a maximum of thirty minutes at no additional charge at the discretion of the Office of Parking and Mass Transit Services. Any University member with a vehicle registered to park on campus may request a special permit Loading/Unloading pass. All outstanding fines must be paid before the permit will be issued.
Meters
Metered parking spaces provide short-term priority parking in areas of high demand on campus. Meters accept coins for a maximum time purchase of 30 minutes around the podium and a maximum of one hour in front of the residence halls. Patrons may park in these spaces only for the amount of time purchased. Hours of enforcement are Monday - Thursday, 8am to 8pm and Friday, 8am to 5pm. Saturday, Sunday, and state holidays are excepted.
