David G. Schutt (schutt@netcom.com) --------------- Personal: Born: 1935, Lindsay, California Education: B.S. Elect. Engr. 1957, Univ of Calif., Berkeley, CA Occupation: Retired, Pacific Bell Telephone engineering department. Member: Audio Engr. Society., American Theatre Organ Society. (Santa Barbara and Sequoia Chapters), MAX Users Group Computers: Macintosh IIci, IIsi, Dynabook 286 Organs: Hammond X66, 3-manual, 10-rank Robert Morton from New Santa Cruz Theater, Santa Cruz, CA Piano: Steinway, Model B, 1891 Musical Interests: Narrow :-) Largely confined to equally-tempered keyboard instruments (so far at least). I first got interested in pipe organs when one was being installed in the church. Later, the organ maintenance people there showed me the wonders of unification and theater organs. I've never been the same. Although my primary interest is theater/popular organ music, I love to hear transcriptions and compositions of the Richard Purvis school. I went to hear Virgil Fox as often as I could. In the theater organ world, my favorite organists are Larry Vannucci and George Wright. As a result of living with a jazz organist for about 5 years, I have developed quite a fondness for the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Errol Garner. I wish I could say that I had the smallest fraction of the talent that any of the aforementioned musicians possess(ed). However when urged, I can usually play "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" or "I'll Take an Option on You" without making too many mistakes. Beyond that, it's very questionable. Computer Interests: I got involved with this during my Army days at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico (1958-1960). The Telephone Company furthered this interest with data communications assignments in California and New York. Since retirement, I have taken on some small computer projects. Lately, I have been building a Macintosh computer-controlled relay for the organ in my home. It's playing now, but I am just getting started on a phase that will add the combination pistons into the overall system (if I'm lucky). Perhaps when this is all finished, I can add a song or two to my repertoire.
