Ian L. Pykett (pykett@aol.com) ------------- Born in England in 1953 but living in the US since 1980, I was raised in the Anglican church music tradition singing first as a treble chorister, and later as counter-tenor in my home city's Anglican church (St. Mary's, Nottingham). Since my first post as organist and choirmaster at the age of sixteen, I have held a succession of positions as organist and/or choirmaster at several churches in England and the United States. My choral experience also includes singing Baritone with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and Baritone and Counter-Tenor with Schola Cantorum - the core performing group of the Saratoga, New York-based Friends of Musical Arts. The experience of playing several of the most famous historical organs of Europe led to my fascination for mechanical action instruments, and my positions as organist have been on modern-day equivalents built by such notable firms as Rieger, Marcussen and Nigel Church. I developed the disposition for the new organ by Th. Frobenius & Sons which is shortly to be dedicated in my church in Saratoga Springs, Upstate New York. As a result of the strong relationship I developed with this firm, I have recently been appointed its US Representative. I have made my living in technology development, receiving my doctorate in Physics in 1979. I am currently Vice President of a high-technology firm based near Albany, New York, and am a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. My specialties are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and superconductivity. A Colleague of the American Guild of Organists, I serve on the Boards of Directors of the Saratoga County Arts Council and Friends of Musical Arts, Saratoga.
