Dennis M Leight --------------- Born 1947 at Baldwin, New York Education Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, St. John's University 1969 Graduate degree SUNY at Stony Brook 1975 Occupation Organ Builder and Technician I began private studies at the piano at the age of five and later studied organ with Dr. George Powers in New York City for a period of five years. While still living in New York I also worked in the organ service business and availed myself of every opportunity to involve myself in American Theater Organ Society activities. I had begun tuning my own piano in my early teens and began to do this professionally in 1972 along with my organ work. Since 1978 I have lived permanently on the Maine coast and have done business as D M Leight & Co. In this business I have restored two 19th Century E & G G Hook organs, countless reed organs and many pianos, particularly players. Lately I have established a relationship with Austin Organs Inc. in Hartford CT which now supplies my shop with some of its work. My musical tastes are quite broad as I love everything musical from Grand Opera to Jazz. Bach, orchestral transcriptions, theatre organ repertoire and silent film accompaniments all have a place in my musical life. Although I have enjoyed restoring small Trackers, I find much more to my taste in larger electropneumatic instruments and good orchestral stops. I have a hybrid residence organ in my home in which are combined stops from Hook, E.M. Skinner and Aeolian Skinner instruments.
