James H. H. Lampert ------------------- Born June, 1962 Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, California State University Long Beach, 1985. Currently thinking of pursuing an Associate Degree in Music Occupation: Journeyman Programmer at Touchtone Software International Musical Interests: I have been interested in good music for as long as I can remember, but only began attending concerts as a University student, and only began learning to play in January of 1997. Until my first piano class, I never realized how much fun it could be. I began organ lessons with David York, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Long Beach, California, in the summer of 1997. (That's right, with only one semester of piano!) A chronicle of my lessons is available on my web site, on the "Adventures in Creative Futility" page, or by email subscription. The hardest thing so far has been finding an organ teacher (other than someone who works out of a music shop, and specializes in teaching bored housewives and retires how to play highly automated toys) willing to take on such an underqualified student. By comparison, getting both hands and both feet going at the same time has been relatively easy. Other Interests: Figure Skating, Video Production, Science Fiction and Fantasy literature and television, Animation, Railroads, Modelbuilding (primarily trains and spacecraft), writing (my first attempt at a novel, of which I'll only say that it's about the adventures of a child prodigy organist, and that spending time inside the head of a fictional little girl whose idea of fun is sitting down at an organ and making music was the catalyst that awakened my own long-dormant interest in learning to play the piano, harpsichord and organ. Instruments Owned: Roland E-28 portable keyboard Generalmusic/Ahlborn Archive 201 digital organ MIDI box The old family upright piano (has anybody ever heard of "Metzgher"?) Instruments Played Austin 3-manual organ at St. Luke's Johnson & Son 2-manual tracker organ (1877) at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sacramento, CA (but only for a few minutes). Fritz Noack museum exhibit organ (1 manual, 12 keys, 3 ranks; currently on tour with The Westfield Center's "FestivalOrgan" exhibition). Unusual Quirks: Terrified of organs as a small child; never realized what an organ was *supposed* to sound like until my late teens. Became E. Power Biggs fan, and tracker backer, at the University. Marital Status: Single and lonely. Strongly attracted to musically-inclined women.
