Earl Green ---------- History: I was born July 3, 1962 in London, Ohio, about 20 miles west of Columbus. My first taste of performing came at 7 on a Magnus chord organ in front of about 70 people. Of course they applauded. Who wouldn't for 7 year old. Naturally for Christmas I got my very own Magnus and a Michael Aaron Primer! Although I had been playing hymns by ear for Sunday night services it was not until later I would actually take lessons. At 8 I joined Cub Scouts of America. We met in the basement of the local Presbyterian Church. During our first meeting, I heard music upstairs. Upon reaching the top, a man and woman were at this large instrument. I had never seen anything like it. Huge pipes everywhere! Seeing me peek through the banister they motioned for me to come on up and have a look. When they heard I was studying piano they asked if I wanted to play. I looked at this organ and said "What do I do with all those buttons under the bench!"? She explained a few simple rules and then for the first time I began playing Silent Night with both hands and feet. The sound of that organ will forever be in my mind! Immediately the REAL lessons began. I enjoyed singing at church (southern gospel believe it or not!) but loved piano and organ much more. During the first few weeks of High School Chorus my director pulled me aside and said, "You have a good voice. You should take it to state." So voice study began with little time to prepare and there is a big difference between Handel and southern gospel! I sang Handel's "Where'er You Walk" and all the judges gave me a perfect score. At my next lesson my piano teacher played for me the first act duet from La Boheme with Victoria de los Angeles and Jussi Bjoerling. I was hooked! Now I began studying Italian and German on the side and French at school. I moved my senior year and was able to study organ and voice at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. My scholarship audition at Wittenberg included piano and voice. At the end of the audition, all faculty agreed my forte was voice. So, that ended my concentration on all three and the main focus was on voice. Hence, organ on hold. At 18 I left for Dallas. It was warmer in Texas! Within 1 year of training I made it into the Dallas Opera Chorus. I stayed in the chorus 4 years until I left to study at Catholic University of America. I sang for 1 season in the DC Summer Opera and at the French Embassy, then moved back to Columbus, OH and sang 3 years in the opera there and held a soloist position at North Broadway United Methodist Church also filling in on the 3m Casavant organ from time to time. Back to Dallas - Main organist/soloist at Hillcrest Church and my first real intro to directing - Messiah and Mozart's Requiem. Moved to Orlando - Became involved in a ministry. I work for an electronics firm during the day, and the rest of the time I play the organ at World Outreach Church, a Rogers, at most services and travel all over the US and Canada singing in an ensemble. I've even had the chance to go to Israel and be in a video. Hobbies: Of course studying everything that has to do with organs. I love to cook Italian and French. I'm told a make baguettes to die for. I love traveling. I love music from southern gospel to opera. Organ building is beginning to enter my hobby list. Although I am just beginning to truly understand the organ, designing my own instrument will keep me busy for quite some time. It may take 2 years to complete but, at least it will be a real organ! Favorites: The French culture, Bel Canto Opera i.e. Bellini - this is my specialty, I like Bach but my favorite to listen to most of the time is the French Romantic - I love Vierne and Widor, my favorite organ builder is Cavaille-Coll. My favorite electronic is Allen although the newer Rogers are not bad. My pipe playing experience has been limited. I have played on several Mollers, 3 Reuters, 4 Casavants and 2 Felgemakers. Oh, and I got to play the Morton at the Ohio Theatre! By the way, I've been married for 16 years! If you want to see more of our everyday life visit our web site. E-mail for current location!
