Jack R. Gradijan (jgrad@aol.com) ---------------- Education: Studied piano privately in elementary school and high school. 1955: Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Self-studied organ with two other students at MIT. 1963-1966: United States Public Health Services traineeship in neurobiology at Center for Brain Research, University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. Employment: Until retirement in January, 1994, worked as a software engineer in development of medical instrumentation. Have held church organ positions and actively engaged in substituting (primarily in Lutheran congregations) since graduation from MIT. Served as organ accompanist for Lutheran Choral Society of Greater Boston. Presently organist at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Westborough, Massachusetts. Related Information: Member of American Guild of Organists (Boston Chapter). Built 18th century French double harpsichord (after Taskin) from Hubbard kit. Actively use Macintosh home computer, interfaced with Ensoniq synthesizer/sequencer, with Finale software, for arranging music, preparing performance editions (organ, choir, handbells), and just for fun! One of my foremost interests is in providing and encouraging the best in church music. I believe that music of all periods and styles (organ, instrumental, choral, vocal) is appropriate in worship, provided it is well planned, well prepared and well performed by serious musicians. I am quite concerned with the large amount of ad hoc folk music, poorly conceived and poorly executed, currently found in our churches.
