John Brock (jbrock@utkvx.utk.edu) ---------- Occupation: Professor of Music at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, since 1967, teaching organ, harpsichord, keyboard harmony, church music; coordinator of graduate studies in music; member of way too many committees. Education: Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in organ from the University of Alabama (1963 and 1964 respectively), organ study with Warren Hutton. Further study at Haarlem Summer Academy for Organists, the North German Organ Academy, and coaching with Russell Saunders. Publications: Several articles and translations in The Diapason and The American Organist; organ method "Introduction to Organ Playing in 17th and 18th Century Style" (Wayne Leupold editions, 1988); Compact disc "A Tennessee Organ Tour" (Raven Recordings, 1993); "The Volunteer Organist", a series of 12 half-hour radio programs on pipe organs in Tennessee. Professional Memberships: American Guild of Organists (currently District Convener for Tennessee), Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society (past-president), Organ Historical Society, Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. Professional Activities: Organ teaching; organ recitals and workshops (in the United States and Europe); organ & trumpet recitals with Cathy Leach, trumpet; organ consulting for churches; solo and ensemble performances on the harpsichord. Church organist and choir director (Presbyterian and Lutheran) from 1964-1991, now an occasional substitute. Interests: Classical organ music, church music, organ design, organ pedagogy, languages (knowledge of Dutch, German, French).
