The Albany physics department awards BS, MS and PhD degrees.
We have active research going in several fields, including:

  • X-ray Optics
  • Biological Physics
  • Medical Physics
  • Electron Microscopy
  • MeV Microbeam Analysis
  • Experimental High Energy Physics
  • Theoretical Physics 
  • Instructional Technology Development
  • Computational Physics 
  • Archeometry

All of our courses, including the introductory ones, are taught by faculty, many of whom are international leaders in their fields. The University at Albany Department of Physics has a long tradition of teaching excellence which it intends never to lose. Four faculty have become Distinguished Teaching or Distinguished Service Professors, and 36 Excellence Awards, honorary degrees and other awards have been made to Physics faculty members and staff:
