The University at Albany embraces families and parents as partners in support of our students’ successful journey through college. It is in this spirit that family members and guardians are welcome to attend Family Orientation. Students attending a New Student Orientation should register expected guests at the time of the conference registration. This helps us plan for the event, but it is not a formal commitment. On the first day of conference check-in, all guests' attendance will be confirmed and the guest fee will be placed on the student's account accordingly. Family members and guests are welcome at all conferences and, if attending, will follow a separate schedule of events.
Family Orientation offers the opportunity to learn more about the University, its staff, facilities, services and resources available to incoming students. Typical topics include: discussions of the academic environment including academic advising and academic support services, residential life, financial, counseling and health services, and opportunities for leadership and social interaction. Because of the nature of the program, it is not appropriate for anyone except family members, parents/guardians or spouses to attend as a guest. Friends or siblings are not allowed to accompany students.
