The soprano, accompanied by pianist Victoria von Arx, reflects on 40 years on stage with text, lieder, arias and selections from musicals.  In advance of the concert, Ms. Chalker will offer a free master class and meet-the-artist session on Thursday, October 16 from 7 to 10pm. more info

Art Song Festival
Friday & Saturday, October 24 & 25 – coachings and workshops
Sunday, October 26 – free performances at 1pm & 4:30pm

Jointly sponsored by the Department and ENY/NATS, this festival champions the study and performance of the classical art song repertoire with a particular focus on French art song.  Participation is for non-professional singers giving them the opportunity to explore, coach and perform new repertoire while being evaluated by ENY/NATS members. more info

Latin America in Song

New York City based soprano Patricia Cay and pianist Max Lifchitz team up to perform a program highlighting art songs by composers from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. more info

This concert is presented in collaboration with North/South Consonance Inc. and with the support of the New York State Council on the Arts.

Youth Movements Festival
The seventh annual festival celebrates piano music for four hands. Fresh from completing her Master of Performance degree, UAlbany graduate Melinda Cestaro returns for a concert of works with her former mentor. The program for the first event will include Weber duets from Professor Cumming’s recent Centaur CD, Schubert’s F minor Fantasie, Hungarian Dances of Brahms and Slavonic Dances of Dvorak.  The four hand fun continues at the second event when pianists from around the Capital Region come together to perform works from various composers of many periods. more info

You Can Say That Again!

Andrew StermanPianist Bob Gluck teams up with noted computer musician Neil Rolnick and saxophonist Andrew Sterman (of the Philip Glass Ensemble) to perform works by Rolnick as well as Gluck's interpretations of traditional Jewish melodies.  The music crosses stylistic boundaries melding jazz, electronic, classical and everything in between.  Prior to the concert, the musicians will offer a free workshop in music improvisation and electronic performance from 4 to 5pm.

New Music and Culture Symposium

Organized by UAlbany faculty member Max Lifchitz, this SUNY-wide conference includes public concerts, lecture/recitals, panel discussions and master classes highlighting the artistic accomplishments of composers affiliated with the SUNY system. 
These events are made possible with funding from the SUNY System Administration Conversations in the Discipline Program, Office of the UAlbany Vice-President for Research, CAS Dean's Office, Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholars Program and public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Hubbard Hall Opera Theatre offers an evening of romance, drama and passion celebrating the sumptuous music of Giacomo Puccini including works from Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Tosca, Turandot and other masterpieces as well as lesser known songs that never made it into an opera score.
