The bassist/educator joins the UAlbany pianist in a concert of musical improvisations.  The two are long-term musical collaborators, most recently in the quartet Infinite Spirit which performs repertoire from Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi band of the early 1970s. They will be joined by special guest Tani Tabbal on drums.  In the afternoon from 2:45 to 5:15pm, the duo offers a musical improvisation workshop open to students, faculty and the general public. more info

Mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna and pianist Max Lifchitz join forces to explore the vast and diverse art song repertoire from throughout Latin America performing works by composers from Argentina, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. In advance of the concert, Ms. Tonna will offer a master class and meet-the-artist session on Monday, October 28 from 4:15 to 6pm. more info

YOUTH MOVEMENTS FESTIVAL
The sixth annual festival centers on music of Mozart, beginning this year with his complete works for four hands performed by pianists of all ages from all around the Capital Region. Next the Capital Trio takes the stage performing works by Mozart, Dvorak, Amy Beach, and the world premier of The Other Way by Los Angeles based composer David Walther, which the Trio recorded last summer for release by Albany Records. more infoCapital Trio

Don José’s life was just fine – nice girlfriend, stable military career – until he arrested Carmen, stunningly beautiful and terrifying all at once.  There aren’t many woman who will make you throw it all away, but Carmen’s motto is “live free and die free” – and she proves it.  Fully costumed and staged, this condensed piano production, featuring mezzo-soprano Kara Cornell and pianist Elizabeth Bonomo, is sung in French with supertitles. more info
