The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present a unique program of Duet Improvisations on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 8pm in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus.   Performing in the concert will be guest artists Tom Burre, Ben Chadabe, Langdon Crawford and Joseph Reinsel.

On the program, Tom Burre and Joseph Reinsel will perform together with Burre on guitar, sampler, computer and voice and Reinsel using customs video and audio processing software. They will guide one another through interactive laptop processes for music and video. Ben Chadabe, percussionist, and Langdon C. Crawford, laptop, will combine improvised music with abstract video to explore rhythmic patterns and synchronicity. Using birds, street lights, and Chadabe's real-time playing as source material, the transformations form a fabric of polyrhythmic connections.

Based in the Capital Region, guitarist, vocalist and electronic musician Tom Burre composes and improvises in many diverse musical genres. Metroland acclaimed the debut CD by BoneOil, Burre's art rock performance group, as 'Best Album of the Year' in 2000 and called Burre 'Best Guitarist making a statement' in 2001. His recent performances combined sound with dance and food preparation for 'Waldorf Salad', an interactive composition co-written and performed with dancers Jack Magai and Leah Walsh.  Burre will perform with guitar, sampler, computer and voice.  He uses granular synthesis software in a 6-channel speaker set up.

Benjamin Chadabe, improvising percussionist and video artist, has performed with poet Pierre Joris, with dancers including Min Tanaka and the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, with voice artist Jaap Blonk, and with other composers and improvisers including Damien Catera, Bryan Kieser, Warren Burt, and Elliott Sharp. He has recently performed in New York City at Tonic, EMF Hip Chips Festival, NYU and The Stone.

Langdon C. Crawford has been improvising with electronics since 1999. Starting with guitars and effects, he moved into computer music, eventually incorporating graphics and live interaction. In 2001, he began designing, composing and performing works and systems for laptop performance and real-time interaction. His current interests involve melding the visceral experience of a rock concert with the experimentation and improvisation in live and computer music performance.

Joseph Reinsel creates sound and video art using digital and analog tools and instruments. He uses digital media including video, video and sound installation, music and Internet art to give form and substance to his vision.  Reinsel's works have been performed at ParticleWave/Pixelache 2005 (Finland), KUNSTRADIO/Ars Electronica Festival  2004 (Austria/ Baltimore), the MAXIS Festival of Sound and Experimental Music (Sheffield,UK), Roulette(NY); Deep Listening Space (NY), Galapogos Arts Space (NY), Tonic/subtonic (NY), Engine27 (NY), Mobius (Boston, MA) and Harvestworks Digital Media Center (NY).  He is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Visual Arts Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where he teaches interactive art.
