The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present faculty member Albin Zak in a concert with the New Folk Chamber Players on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 7pm at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. Following the fall release of his new CD, Villa Maria Road, Zak will perform a set of his songs in new arrangements with violinist Hilary Cumming, cellist Petia Kassarova and pianist Victoria von Arx.

Zak is a singer-songwriter, composer and recording artist who works in both popular and classical idioms. For the concert, his Americana-style songs will be presented in settings that feature a classical piano trio as well as Zak himself on guitar. The concert is a retrospective of songs drawn from each of Zak’s six CDs, released over the past twenty-five years, all of which employ a conventional lineup of folk rock sounds. In composing the new arrangements, he has reimagined the songs as chamber music.

Joining Zak are two fellow UAlbany Music Department faculty members and a guest artist. Von Arx is an accomplished pianist who specializes in both solo and chamber music repertory. Cumming is a member of the acclaimed Capital Trio, which is in residence at the University at Albany. Kassarova is a member of the Albany Symphony and the Musicians of Ma’alwyck.

Tickets are $8 for the general public and $4 for students, seniors & UAlbany faculty/staff and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office.  For further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997.
