"THE STAR THROWER" HIGHLIGHTS FESTIVAL
The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present the Festival of Contemporary Music on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 7pm in the Main Theatre of the Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. Performing will be the University Percussion Ensemble and the Empire State Youth and Repertory Percussion Ensembles.
The featured work will be The Star Thrower, originally composed by the Associated Solo Artists team of John Cimino, Jon Klibonoff and Richard Albagli as a one-act opera, but presented here in its revised version for percussion ensemble and narrator by the Empire State Youth Percussion Ensemble. The essay upon which this work is based was written by Loren Eiseley, prize-winning author, anthropologist, naturalist, poet and science writer. It confronts the issues of the meaning of life, evolution, man’s interacting with the natural world and the transformative power of love --- all told in richly poetic language lovingly preserved in this adaptation. It is a life-changing story told to the background of beautiful and powerful music.
Also on the program will be works by Ney Rosauro, David Macbride, UAlbany graduate Nick Fortunato, Halim El Dabh and Steven Primatec.
Tickets are $6 for the general public and $3 for students, seniors & UAlbany faculty/staff and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office. For further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997.
