THREE ENSEMBLES PERFORM IN CHORAL HOUR
The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present the The Choral Hour on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 4pm at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. Performing will be the University-Community Chorale and the University Chamber Singers, both under the direction of David Griggs-Janower, and special guests the College of St. Rose Masterworks Chorale, under the direction of Michael Lister.
Fresh from their recent performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Schenectady Symphony, the University-Community Chorale will open the program with excerpts of Stravinsky's "Symphony of Psalms" in a highly unusual rendering for four-hand piano and chorus. Pianists Starr Norman and Joshua Tanis will pair up for this rarely-performed version.
The guest ensemble from St. Rose will take the stage next performing Tchesnokoff's beloved "Salvation is Created" as well as music by William Hawley, Haydn, Bach and David Dickau.
The University Chamber Singers will close the program with some unusual repertory including Samuel Barber's famous song "Sure On This Shining Night" in a choral arrangement made by the composer himself; "Cantos del Agua" (Songs of Water), a set of three pieces on texts by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca composed by Argentinian Dante Andreo; "Famine Song," made popular by the quartet VIDA; a prize-winning song by composer Bran Schmidt entitled "Lux Aeterna" and a choral arrangement of the "William Tell Overture."
Tickets are $6 for the general public and $3 for students, seniors & UAlbany faculty/staff and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office. For further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997.
