DEPARTMENT CONTINUES SERIES OF ORIGINAL WORKS
The University at Albany Department of Theatre is pleased to present Plays in Process, a series offered each semester which features readings of original works by student and alumni playwrights. This fall’s readings will take place in the Studio Theatre at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus on Friday through Sunday, October 14-16, 2011. Performance times are 7pm on Friday & Saturday and 2pm on Saturday & Sunday.
Two plays will be presented at each performance time followed by a discussion. Works to be featured are by a current Theatre major and a recent graduate of the Theatre Department. The readings are directed by adjunct faculty member David Lane with literary advice by Assistant Professor James Farrell.
On Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, Evan Jones’s Tom Goes Fishing will be performed. This sidesplitting romp through a sitcom gone horribly awry follows Tom who is on a mission to bring his life to the stage. The problem is, his life (and everyone in it), can’t follow a script. As his offstage quandaries become onstage conundrums, Tom is left holding the bag (and fishing rod) wondering how comic mishap trumped his own hilarity.
On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, alumnus Charity Buckbee’s Under the Big Top will take the stage. The play explores the dark secrets that live within the heart and soul of a circus clown revealing the personal triumphs and heartbreaking tragedy that hides beneath the grease paint.
Evan Jones’s Cinephelia will be featured at all four shows. The work displays what happens when a pair of movie-buffs square off in a breakneck-game of trivia with comedic consequences. As the conversation turns to nerd-love, a test of knowledge fast becomes a test of friendship.
Admission for each reading is $4. For further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997.
