The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present the University Jazz Ensemble on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 7:30pm in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. 

 

The University Jazz Ensemble is a twenty-four member big band composed of university and community musicians that perform jazz music from the 1940’s to the sounds of today under the direction of David Hosley. The music of Art Blakey, Kris Berg, Louiz Bonfa and Duke Ellington will be featured in this performance.  

 

Director of this ensemble for the past thirteen years, Hosley has been teaching instrumental music in the East Greenbush Central School District for over twenty years. He is currently Director of the Columbia High School Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble as well as a theory instructor.  He is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, International Association of Jazz Educators, New York State School Music Association, and MENC: The National Association for Music Education.

 

Hosley has performed with the Big Band of the Northeast on trumpet and piano and has been a studio musician for Spectrum Studios in Lanesboro, MA. He received an award from the BET Jazz Channel for a performance with the Joe Finn Jazz Quartet. He has appeared as a guest conductor for the Rensselaer County Jazz Ensemble. He continues to perform on a regular basis with his own band, Top Shelf.
