The University at Albany Department of
Music has announced today two changes to its concert calendar. The fully staged
versions of “Don Giovanni” by Capital Opera originally scheduled for October 22
and 23 will not be performed due to artist illness. Instead a concert version
of “Don Giovanni” will take place on
Friday, March 5, 2010 in the Recital
Hall of the Performing Arts Center on
the uptown campus.
Added to the
schedule on Friday, October 23, 2009 is a concert entitled “Of Gods and Demons”
which will be performed by Capital Opera at 7pm in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. Featuring music
by Christoph Willibald Glück,
Charles Gounod, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Jacques Offenbach and Giacomo Puccini and focusing on heroes, villains and other
supernatural creatures from the opera, the concert will showcase Kara Cornell, Andrew
Cumming, Kelly Hutchinson, Vedrana Kalas, Margaret Lampasi, Richard Mazzaferro, Melanie Shenk, Andy Truex and the University Chamber Singers. It will also feature the talents of Michael
Clement as Maestro di piano/Musical Director, Kelly
Hutchinson as Stage Director and Dan Foster as Maestro di
Coro.
Capital Opera’s
mission is to provide the Capital Region quality experiences in opera and
classical vocal music while providing emerging and developing artists a venue
for role study and performance in complete operas. The company seeks out the best talent
available while maintaining a strong commitment to include local artists in
concerts and productions. Capital Opera
gave its inaugural performance at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center last
season with a concert version of Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro.”
Ticket holders for
the October performances of “Don Giovanni” have three options – they may
exchange them for the March 5 performance, they may exchange them for the
October 23 performance of “Of Gods and Demons” or they may get a full refund.
Tickets for “Of Gods and Demons” are $10 for the general public, $8 for seniors and UAlbany faculty/staff and $5 for students and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office.
