The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present the University Chamber Singers and the University Chorale under the direction of David Griggs-Janower in a program entitled Songs of the Sea, Songs of the River on Thursday, April 23 at 7pm in the Main Theatre of the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus.

In celebration of Henry Hudson’s discovery of the Hudson River and Champlain’s discovery of Lake Champlain, the program’s repertory will include classical and folk music about rivers and the sea from America and Canada, both unaccompanied and accompanied by piano.  In addition, the Chorale will also perform the Easter Hymn scene from Mascagni’s opera Cavalleria Rusticana.  Voice major Melissa Shank will perform the soprano solo.

Accompanists for the program are pianists Gordon Hibberd and Arla Wilding.  Two student conductors, Derek Smith and Christopher Vining, will make their conducting debuts.

Tickets are $8 for the general public; $6 for seniors and UAlbany faculty-staff and $4 for students and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office.  For further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997 or visit the Performing Arts Center website at www.albany.edu/pac.
