The University at
Albany Department of Music is pleased to present the University Chamber Singers
and the University Chorale under the direction of David Griggs-Janower in a
program entitled Songs of the Sea, Songs of the River on Thursday, April 23 at 7pm
in the Main Theatre of the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the
uptown campus.
In celebration of
Henry Hudson’s discovery of the Hudson River and Champlain’s discovery of Lake
Champlain, the program’s repertory will include classical and folk music about
rivers and the sea from America and Canada, both unaccompanied and accompanied
by piano. In addition, the Chorale will
also perform the Easter Hymn scene from Mascagni’s opera Cavalleria
Rusticana. Voice major Melissa Shank will
perform the soprano solo.
Accompanists for the program are pianists Gordon Hibberd and Arla Wilding. Two student conductors, Derek Smith and Christopher Vining, will make their conducting debuts.
Tickets are $8 for the general public; $6 for seniors and UAlbany
faculty-staff and $4 for students and may be purchased through the Performing
