The University at Albany Department of Music is pleased to present mezzo-soprano Kara Cornell accompanied by pianist Michael Clement on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 7pm in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus.  The program will include “La Regata Venezia” by Rossini, selections from “Les nuits d'ete by Berlioz, an aria from Handel's “Ariodante and art songs and folk arrangements by American composer Jake Heggie.

 

Cornell is a classical singer who performs with opera companies, orchestras and music festivals around the country. She has been a concert and recital soloist with numerous organizations and choirs including The US Naval Academy, The Brooklyn Philharmonic and The Pittsburgh Camerata where she was soloist for the premiere and professional recording of Nancy Galbriath’s Sacred Songs and Interludes.  She travels the country to perform with opera companies; most recently she has been in St. Louis performing in The Magic Flute and this spring she will perform “Rosina” in The Barber of Seville in Philadelphia.

 

A native of Long Island, Cornell moved to the Albany area two years ago after marrying a Delmar native.  Since then, she has been soloist with numerous local organizations including The Octavo Singers, Aeode Consort, Lake George Opera, The Bethlehem Library, Russell Sage College and Hubbard Hall Opera Theater. Cornell will be seen locally in the next month in Le nozze di Figaro with Capital Opera as a soloist with Albany Pro Musica.
