The University at
Albany Department of Music is pleased to present the Capital Collegiate Choral Festival on Sunday, November 9, 2007 at 7pm
in the Main Theatre of the UAlbany
Performing Arts
Center on the uptown
campus. This concert marks the ninth annual performance
of this event. Along with the University
Chorale and the University Chamber Singers under the direction of David Griggs-Janower,
the concert will include area choruses from the College
of St. Rose and Schenectady
County Community
College.
There will be a wide range of choral music performed,
including a performance of parts of Praise to God by New York composer George Bristow. The
work, written in 1860, has not been performed since the 19th century.
Bristow was an important composer, conductor and music educator in New York City in the
second half of the 19th century, as well as a violinist with the NY
Philharmonic. Griggs-Janower has unearthed the manuscript of Praise to God
from the archives of the NY State Library and is preparing a performing edition
of the work as he did several years ago with another Bristow piece, The
Oratorio of Daniel.
Other works on the program include music from Brazil, the Basque area of Spain, Ireland,
Israel, Germany, Canada,
Norway, and, of course, the US, including
spirituals and Gospel.
Tickets are $8 for the general public; $6 for seniors and
UAlbany faculty-staff and $4 for students and may be purchased through the
Performing Arts Center Box Office. For
further information, contact the Box Office at (518) 442-3997 or visit the
Performing Arts Center website at www.albany.edu/pac.
