TOP 10 THINGS NOT TO BRING TO THE UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY

  1. Halogen Lamps — These lamps are prohibited because of their potential to cause a fire.

  2. Microwave Ovens, Toaster Ovens, or any Indoor grills (i.e. George Foreman) — Only microwaves that are a part of the microfridge unit are permitted in the residence halls. For snack preparation, the following appliances, UL approved only, are permitted: pop-up toaster, closed-element popcorn popper, thermostatically controlled hot pot and rice cookers, and percolator/coffeemaker.

  3. Cinder or other blocks designed to raise beds — These items are prohibited because of the potential for injury. ( Store-purchased plastic bed risers are permitted.)

  4. Waterbeds or lofts — Only University supplied loft configurations are acceptable. Waterbeds are prohibited.

  5. Pets — Tropical fish are the only pets permitted in the residence halls.

  6. Candles or incense — There are to be no open flames within our residence halls because of the potential to cause a fire.

  7. Tapestries and other wall coverings — Again, these items are combustible, therefore the University restricts the amount of wall space that can be covered.

  8. Knives or other weapons — Dangerous objects are not allowed in the residence halls because they pose a threat to our community.

  9. Alcohol, Drugs, and Paraphernalia — The University adheres to all state and federal regulations in regards to Alcohol and Drug use. Paraphernalia, such as bongs, pipes, empty beer cans and or empty alcohol/wine bottles are not perceived as decorations and should not be brought to the University at Albany.

  10. Everything including the kitchen sink — Space is limited in our residence halls and items such as sweaters and other winter clothing can be brought back after Thanksgiving recess.

All information above can be found in Community Rights and Responsibilities and the Residence Hall License Agreement.
