Transfer FAQ's:
I want to register for classes. Can I do so anytime?
All students must consult with an academic advisor before registering for classes. This may occur prior to or during the Transfer Planning Conference, depending on your major. When you sign up for a Conference, your academic information is sent to your advisor for review. The "New Transfer Student" website (www.albany.edu/advisement) provides additional information. Tours and information sessions are offered during the Conference. Additionally, since there are a number of administrative details that need to be accomplished before the start of classes, the Planning Conference is designed to provide these.
How will I know what courses transferred?
Your Transfer Evaluation Report will be prepared by Undergraduate Admissions and will be available to you through MyUAlbany. This document and the related Degree Audit Report will be reviewed with you at the Transfer Planning Conference.
I have been taking courses at UA through the General Studies program. I just got admitted to a degree program. I've been taking classes, so why do I have to attend a Planning Conference?
Students who have been taking courses at UA and are admitted to a degree program must also consult with their academic advisor. The Planning Conference affords you the opportunity to be oriented to your academic department. Additionally, since there are a number of administrative details that need to be accomplished before the start of classes, the Planning Conference is designed to provide these.
What about Day Care Services?
There are a number of day care services offered throughout the capital district area. You may wish to consult the yellow pages of the phone book for locations and phone numbers. Additionally, there is a day care center on campus. Information for U-Kids Day Care can be accessed on line at: http://www.campuschildrenscenter.com/
Please keep in mind that wait-lists exist for many day care centers, so contact those of interest as soon as possible once you are considering UA.
What kinds of services exist for off-campus living?
There are many opportunities available to transfers in the capital district area who wish to live off campus. You may wish to obtain further information from the UA web site at http://www.albany.edu/housing/living/rl_offcampushousing.html.
You may also want to review classified listings in the Albany Times Union newspaper at http://timesunion.com/classifieds Click on apartments.
What kinds of on-campus housing opportunities are available?
The University offers a variety of exciting on campus living options for students. These include cable, phone, and internet access. Please see our web site at http://www.albany.edu/housing/
What is a Degree Audit Report?
The Degree Audit is an excellent tool that you and your advisor will use while you are here to follow your progress toward your degree. It outlines your degree requirements, and how the courses you've previously taken fit that plan, and indicates requirements that must still be fulfilled. For more information, go to http://www.albany.edu/registrar/dars.html
Are health forms required prior to my attendance at UAlbany?
Please return the "Required Immunization and Health Information" as soon as possible but no later than the 1st day of classes. This is important because New York State law now makes it mandatory that institutions of higher education administratively withdraw students from classes that are not in compliance.
Please visit http://www.albany.edu/health_center. Click on "Health Forms," then on the link in the text on the right side of the page.
Is there a Parents Orientation?
On December 9, 2008, January 16, 2009 and January 20, 2009, there are optional parents programs that are concurrent and separate from the student program. Check-in is at 9:00 am. The program concludes at 12:30pm. Lunch is on your own. Campus tours take place at 1:30 pm. Students and parents should expect that their programs are separate from one another.
