Welcome UAlbany Parents
The University at Albany embraces parents as partners in support of our students’ successful journey through college. It is in this spirit and in recognition that families play an important role in new students’ transition to UAlbany that parents and guardians are invited to attend a Parent Orientation Program that is offered concurrently and separately from new student orientation programs. Parent Orientation offers the opportunity to learn more about the University, its staff, facilities, services and resources available to incoming students. Typical topics include: discussions of the academic environment including academic advising and academic support services, residential life, financial, counseling and health services, and opportunities for leadership and social interaction.
As parents of a UAlbany freshman student, you are invited to attend a Parent Orientation Program. The parent program is offered concurrently and separately from the student programs held throughout the Summer.
Please note that both the Student and Parent Orientation programs are two day events. Parents who plan to stay overnight during Orientation have an on-campus option. Apartment style accommodations are available on Empire Commons. These feature air conditioning and full size beds, but there is no phone or TV in the apartment. Towels, linens and blankets are provided. The cost is $50/bedroom. Because space is limited, reservations are made on a first-come basis and must be made in advance. This cost is not included in the student or parent conference fee. Call (518) 956-6250 between 9am and 4pm for reservations.

Remember: Students are housed the night of their conference on-campus with their Orientation Assistant and other incoming freshmen as part of the student fee.

As parents of a UAlbany transfer student, you are invited to attend a Parent Orientation Program. The parent program is offered concurrently and separately from the student programs held throughout the Summer. Students are assigned to a specific date based upon their preference and the availability of their academic department. The Orientation schedule does not allow for significant interaction between family members and students until the conclusion of the student program.
