Meet with Academic Department:

6 dates are being offered during the summer for students who are transferring to Albany during which they will:

  • Meet with their academic department for a tour and learn about their major and what it has to offer including research opportunities and internships. (All University at Albany students must consult with their academic department before each class registration.)
  • Receive and review their Degree Audit Report
  • Receive their SUNYCard Student ID (bring a photo ID)
  • Register their vehicle for on-campus parking (bring the vehicle's license plate number)
  • Speak with representatives from offices including financial services, residential life, off-campus housing, parking and mass transit, health and counseling services, student involvement and leadership, disability resource center, career services and more.

*** May 6, 2009 Transfer Planning Conference Option:

An "early" Transfer Planning Conference has been arranged for transfers who are admitted to the University and who have sent their $150 Admissions Deposit to the Student Accounts Office and their Orientation Reservation Card and $80 conference fee to the Orientation Office by the May 1st deadline date.

The Conference date is Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Students admitted for the summer/fall 2009 will receive invitations to the May conference beginning approximately April.  There will be a Parent Orientation session for those who accompany students to the Conference. This is concurrent but separate from the student program. Tours will be available for all who wish to participate.

Due to the student's schedule, it is not likely that there will be significant interaction between family members and students until you are ready to depart from campus.

Students who do not attend this session will select from the dates listed below.

Summer Transfer Planning Conference Dates:

Wednesday, May 6
Wednesday, July 1
Wednesday, July 8
Wednesday, July 15
Wednesday, July 22
Wednesday, July 29

How to Reserve Your Summer Date?

  • Send your $150 Admissions Deposit to the Student Accounts Office by the May 1 deadline.
  • UAlbany mails you a "Welcome Packet" that contains, among other things, Orientation reservation information. (Students who pay their Deposit after May 1 will receive this information on a rolling basis.)
  • Select 3 dates you are able to come to a Transfer Planning Conference. Rank order your preferences.
  • Return your Reservation Form and $80 Conference fee*. Subsequently, you will receive a confirmation of the date to which you are assigned, along with material you must act on before you arrive.

* Conference Fee covers costs associated with Conferences, including special staff, postage and all printed materials and is payable when you reserve your Orientation date.

Transfer FAQ's:

I want to register for classes. Can I do so anytime?

All students must consult with an academic advisor before registering for classes. This may occur prior to or during the Transfer Planning Conference, depending on your major. When you sign up for a Conference, your academic information is sent to your advisor for review. The "New Transfer Student" website (www.albany.edu/advisement) provides additional information. Tours and information sessions are offered during the Conference. Additionally, since there are a number of administrative details that need to be accomplished before the start of classes, the Planning Conference is designed to provide these.

Is there a summer parent orientation program?

Yes.  There is an optional 1/2 day Parent/Family Orientation Program that runs concurrently but separately from the summer student conferences. This is an excellent opportunity for your family member or parent to learn more about the campus environment at the UA. There are also campus tours in the early afternoon.

Due to the student's schedule, it is not likely that there will be significant interaction between family members and students until you are ready to depart from campus.

How will I know what courses transferred?

Your Transfer Evaluation Report will be prepared by Undergraduate Admissions and will be available to you through MyUAlbany. This document and the related Degree Audit Report will be reviewed with you at the Transfer Planning Conference.

You will also receive a "Degree Audit Report" during your Planning Conference that outlines your degree requirements for your major, and indicates how the courses you've previously taken fit that academic plan. Advisors will discuss this with you and explain how your Degree Audit was determined.

What is a Degree Audit Report?

The Degree Audit is a useful tool that you and your advisor can use to follow your progress toward your degree. It outlines your degree requirements, and how the courses you've previously taken fit that plan, and indicates requirements that must still be fulfilled. For more information, go to http://www.albany.edu/registrar/dars.html

I have been taking courses at UA through the General Studies program. I just got admitted to a degree program. I've been taking classes, so why do I have to attend a Planning Conference?

There is a great deal of information about the University offered to you at this time. Additionally, as a newly matriculated student, you will learn of procedures and regulations that now apply to you. Because you are currently attending the University at Albany, the $80 orientation fee does not apply to transfers from the General Studies Program.

What kinds of on-campus housing opportunities are available?

The University offers a variety of exciting on campus living options for students. These include cable and wireless internet access. Please see our web site at:

   http://www.albany.edu/housing/

Most transfer students live on Alumni Quad which features the Transfer Resource Center and offers programs throughout the year that focus on issues that are relevant for transfer students.

Please note: On-campus housing is not guaranteed to transfer students so apply early.

What kinds of services exist for off-campus living?

There are many opportunities available for transfers in the capital district area who wish to live off campus. You may wish to obtain further information from the UA web site at:

   http://www.albany.edu/opsoca/off_campus_housing/

or for local apartment listings, check:

   http://timesunion.com

and click on "yellow pages" and "classifieds."

What about Day Care Services?

There are a number of day care services offered throughout the capital district area. You may wish to consult the yellow pages of the phone book for locations and phone numbers. Additionally, there is a day care center on campus. Information for U-kids Day Care can be accessed on line at:

   http://campuschildrenscenter.com

Please keep in mind that wait-lists exist for many day care centers, so contact those of interest as soon as possible once you are considering UA.

What do I need to complete before the Fall?

  • Attend a Transfer Planning Conference, consult with your academic advisor and register for classes. http://www.albany.edu/orientation, then hit "Transfer." Remember:  you must activate your myUAlbany and University email accounts prior to attending your Planning Conference.
  • Planning to live on campus?
Housing information will be mailed after May 1 to accepted and deposited students in the "Welcome Packet." Included in this mailing will be information on how to complete your housing application online via the MyUAlbany website.
For general information about on-campus living, please go to:
http://www.albany.edu/housing/
  • Health Forms — All new students must complete and return Health Forms to the University Health Center. These forms are included in the "Welcome Packet" or you can go to:
    http://www.albany.edu/health_center

Click "Health Forms," then click on the two links in the text on the right. Questions may be directed via email to:
    askUHC@uamail.albany.edu.

  • Complete Admissions Process — Be certain that final official transcripts of all college coursework, CLEP and AP credit have been sent to the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

What if I can't make it in the summer?

If you cannot attend in the summer, you must attend a Fall Planning Conference immediately before fall classes begin (August 26 or 28). Students must sign up for the Fall Conference and receive a "confirmation of date" mailing from us prior to attending. The Transfer Planning Conference fee of $80 covers the cost of the fall program and is payable when the student sends in his/her Reservation form and Payment Transmittal form. An abbreviated Parent Information Program occurs on Wednesday, August 26. Classes begin on Monday, August 31.
