Professor Gauss' advice:

Take charge of your education to have a really positive learning experience at UAlbany.

Students should not feel that they might "put a faculty member out" by coming to see them for help when they are in a tough spot. Many students feel that they can't bother us, when in fact, if they bothered us sooner rather than later (or never), their college careers might go more smoothly.

I always urge students to see university as a time when, for the first time, they are the leaders in their own education. They need to take an active role in setting goals, setting up class schedules, participating in class, following through with professors, etc. The learning/classroom experience is exceptional when students help the professors make it so. Students need to be actively engaged at all levels.
