Mendoza was mentored by Dr. Paolo Forni of UAlbany’s Biological Sciences Department. Duran-Reyes, 1st place for her oral presentation in Life Sciences I category for her research entitled: BHLHE40-AS1 a Long Noncoding RNA Regulates DEC1 on Breast Cancer Progression. Duran-Reyes was mentored by Dr. Jason Herschkowitz from the UAlbany Cancer Research Center.
