UAlbany-SUNY Junior Chosen for National Leadership CouncilNina Konar, a junior at the University at Albany-SUNY, was awarded a position on the National Leadership Council of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) for the 2008-2009 academic year. The NSCS is an honor society inviting freshmen and sophomores based on grade point average and class standing.
Konar, a sociology major from Rochester, N.Y., was inducted into NSCS in the fall of her sophomore year and immediately made the vice president of community service. She currently serves as the organization’s president.
“Members of the NSCS National Leadership Council must exhibit the three pillars of NSCS – scholarship, leadership, and service,” said Bailey Kasten, manager of operations. “Nina has shown these qualities consistently as a member of NSCS at Albany.”
NSCS awards 20 council positions every year to students who display leadership qualities both at their NSCS chapter and in their on-campus activities. Recent events organized by the Albany chapter include the Relay For Life Penny Wars and the annual March to College Day, which brings a local middle school class to campus.
