Friends of the Libraries Sponsor a Trip to Glimmerglass Opera

Contact: Catherine Herman (518) 437-4980

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 2, 2006) -- The University at Albany Friends of the Libraries will sponsor a summer outing to Glimmerglass Opera on Sunday, July 16, 2006, to enjoy one of the world's great, romantic operas, the comically poignant Rossini's Barber of Seville.

Founded in 1975, the Glimmerglass Opera presents an annual season of operas at the Alice Busch Opera Theater on the lake just eight miles north of historic Cooperstown, N.Y. Their 2006 festival season opens July 7 and runs through August 29.

Glimmerglass is a critically acclaimed summer festival known for fresh, highly innovative productions, performed in rotating repertory, amidst glorious landscapes many of which are co-produced by the New York City Opera. The New York Times hails Glimmerglass as "intimate, provocative, and utterly involving...what opera should be, but so rarely is."

Prior to the opera, the group will dine on a buffet brunch at The Otesaga Hotel featuring exotic omelets, carving meats, pancakes, waffles, baked goods, fruits, pastries, desserts, and more. This year, first-floor seats are available and the entire outing, including transportation on an air-conditioned bus, brunch, and the opera ticket is $133 for first-floor seating and $117 for balcony seating.

Reservations are due by June 30, 2006.
For reservations, contact Del Cummings at (518) 356-0377. For additional information contact Roberta Armstrong (518) 442-3540; [email protected].
