ALBANY, N.Y. (April 5, 2005) - The UAlbany Great Dane cheerleaders finished first, while the UAlbany dance team came in third at the 17th Annual National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Northeast Championship March 12-13 at the UAlbany Recreation and Convocation Center (RACC). Both the cheerleading squad and dance team were required to perform one two-and-a-half minute routine.

UAlbany Spirit Coordinator Patty Palmer coached her cheerleading group to victory over squads from across the state. More than 2,000 participants competed at the Northeast Regionals, with teams performing at Junior High, Junior Varsity, Varsity and Collegiate levels during the two-day meet. The cheerleading squad competed last year, placing second overall. Presently, the team consists of 18 members, 16 females and two males and the dance team has 15 members.
