Bianca, UAlbany K-9 Unit

Four-year old Bianca, a Belgian Malinois with UAlbany's K-9 Unit, will demonstrate skills that allow her to conduct building searches during a demonstration on UAlbany Community Day.

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 8, 2009) -- The K-9 Unit is an integral part of police response for the University Police Department (UPD). Officer Ed Meyers helps one of UPD�s canines -- four-year old Bianca, a Belgian Malinois -- demonstrate skills that allow her to conduct building and area searches during a demonstration at 10 a.m. on Collins Circle at UAlbany Community Day, October 10.

The Bianca the UPD K-9 Wonder Dog demonstration is free and open to the public.

It will be among a bevy of activities at UAlbany Community Day, designed to showcase the University�s academic and cultural strengths. The Day -- which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- will boast faculty presentations on topics ranging from the historical significance of the Battle of Saratoga to nanotechnology; interactive student step dancing, salsa and belly dancing demonstrations; a farmer�s market; sheepherding exhibitions; and a faculty meet and greet.

UAlbany Community Day is part of the University�s Homecoming/Family and Reunion Weekend, which features an alumni luncheon honoring activist Harvey Milk, �51, a speech by former Secretary of State Colin Powell and a lecture by Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman.
