| Biography: Africana Studies lecturer Maurice Thornton researches and teaches courses on The Civil Rights Movement in the United States, African and African American History, and The African and African American Family. Thornton is the past director for affirmative action programs for the State University of New York (SUNY) System Administration, where he oversaw the implementation, with State and Federal guidelines, of all affirmative action programs throughout the University's 64 campuses. Thornton received his bachelor's degree from Alabama State University (1952) where he was the founding president of their student chapter of NAACP. He obtained his master's in education from Cleveland State University (1975) and earned his doctorate from Nova Southeastern University (1981). |
