Biography:
Marcia E. Sutherland, who received her doctorate from Howard University in l985, is chairwoman and associate professor in the Department of Africana Studies. She also serves as associate professor in the Department of Psychology and is the author of the book Black Authenticity: A Psychology for Liberating People of African Descent (l997). She is the editor of the text Psychology and Caribbean Development (in press). She has lectured throughout the U.S., Africa, Caribbean, Latin American and London on issues affecting people of African heritage. Sutherland, a member of the National Association of Black Psychologists, received the Distinguished Psychologist Award for Scholarly Advancement of Black Psychology from the National Association of Black Psychologists in 1998.
