Biography:
Janine Jurkowski's research area is health disparities, focusing on social and cultural determinants of health and community based public health. The populations she predominantly works with are Latinos, women, and people with disabilities. Jurkowski studies screening practices and chronic disease prevention including prevention of cardiovascular diseases. She conducts community based participatory research employing both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Jurkowski was a 2004-2005 National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation and Research, Mary E. Switzer Merit Fellow and is currently a grant proposal reviewer for the Fellowship. She has several publications and conference abstracts on health disparities, Latino health, Latino immigrant health, disability, and community based participatory action research.

She teaches graduate courses in Health Disparities, Family and Community Health and Social and Behavioral Aspects of Health and works with community partners in the Amsterdam community.
