| Biography: Earth and atmospheric sciences chair Vincent Idone's research interests lie within the subdiscipline of atmospheric electricity and thunderstorm research, with particular emphasis on the lightning discharge channel itself. On the larger scale, Idone has been involved with the National Lightning Detection Network (NLDN) at the University at Albany since its inception and maintains a continuing interest in projects using the NLDN data. Other studies have concentrated on looking at lightning in the meteorological environment in which it occurs, as well as the difference in character of lightning in winter versus summer regimes as manifested in the NLDN observations. Idone received his doctorate from the University at Albany (1982). |
