Biography:
Zelma Catalan-Balinova has taught at the department of English and American studies at the University of Sofia in Bulgaria since 1977 where she became a senior assistant professor in 2001. She was also a visiting lecturer in Bulgarian language and literature at the University of Leeds in England from 1986 to 1989.

Catalan-Balinova has published widely in the fields of 19th and 20th century British literature, essay writing, and teaching English language and literature. She received her doctorate (2001) in English literature with her thesis title: "The Politics of Irony in W.M. Thackeray's Mature Fiction."
