University at Albany President George M. Philip has announced the appointment of Kevin Williams as Dean of Graduate Studies.

He joined UAlbanys faculty in 1987, and served as director of undergraduate advising in Psychology from 1994-2005 and graduate director from 2005-2007. He has been department chair since 2007. Prior to his appointment as chair of the Department of Psychology, he was area head for the industrial-organizational psychology and the social-personality graduate doctoral programs. He also recently served as co-chair of the doctoral program review process.

Provost (Susan) Phillips and I are confident Dr. Williams leadership will be instrumental in shaping the excellence of our graduate profile in the days ahead, said the president.

The recipient of the presidents and chancellors Excellence Awards in Teaching in 2007, Williams is known for his devotion to students.  In 2002, he was honored for excellence in undergraduate advising in the psychology department.

His research includes more than 50 refereed publications, chapters, and proceedings, a significant record of presentations at major professional conferences, and service on the premier journals in his field.

He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and the American Psychological Society.

Williams replaces Marjorie Pryse, who has chosen to return to the faculty of Womens Studies and English. His appointment as dean was effective June 1.
