(June 5, 2007)

Herman Named Interim Vice President

Officer in Charge Susan Herbst has announced the appointment of Catherine Herman as interim vice president for the Office of Media and Marketing.

In this role, Herman will oversee the offices of Media Relations, Executive Communications, Marketing, and Recording and Broadcasting Services.

Herman joined the University at Albany in December 2000 as associate vice president of Media and Marketing, where she has been responsible for the overall development and implementation of strategic public relations and marketing programs. She has led the development of such initiatives as the new campuswide signage and way finding system, a new logo, and graphic standards for the University. The American Marketing Association has recognized her work in creating an alumni awareness campaign, "Reaching Higher, Achieving More," and she has successfully worked to increase UAlbany's visibility in the national media. Over the past several years she has worked to improve campus communications among both internal and external University constituents, and is currently leading the campus through a comprehensive branding initiative.

Herman's experience spans higher education, government, and the non-profit sector. She has developed and implemented successful marketing and public relations programs at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the New York State Department of Health, Albany Law School, and the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has also worked in commercial television at EUE/Screen Gems, a division of Columbia Pictures, EUE/Screen Gems.

Herman is the recipient of several marketing awards, including the Echo Leader Award from the Direct Marketing Association of America, two national Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awards for University at Albany projects, and the New York State Commissioner's Recognition Award from the New York State Department of Health.

She earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
