A Great Healthcare Ensurer

The Center for Public Health Continuing Education is reaccredited for sustaining physician excellence.

CPHCE is driving improvements in physician practices and optimizing the care, health and wellness of the public.

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 10, 2017) — UAlbany’s Center for Public Health Continuing Education (CPHCE) has been rewarded for its continued commitment to physician learning and the enhancement of care, health and wellness in the general public by reaccreditation through 2022.

CPHCE, a center of the School of Public Health, was awarded “Accreditation with Commendation” from the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY). MSSNY is recognized by the Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to accredit regional providers of Continuing Medical Education.

Since January 2014, CPHCE has provided more than 1,130 hours of instruction to 28,521 physicians, who benefit from a variety of the center’s continuing medical education (CME) training activities.

After medical school and residency, physicians rely on accredited CME as one of the support systems that helps them continuously improve their practice and care of patients. Through participation in accredited CME, clinicians and healthcare teams drive improvement in practice and optimize the care, health and wellness of the public.

“Being recognized by MSSNY for our body of work is truly an honor and reflects the delivery of the highest quality educational activities designed to support the public health and healthcare workforce in New York State,” said Dawn Bleyenburg, CPHCE director.

CPHCE is nationally known for its distance learning training, including the award-winning Public Health Live (T2B2) webcast series and numerous interactive, self-paced online courses. To achieve its mission “to provide exemplary education and training for the public health workforce,” CPHCE, accredited to award AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM in CME, offers a variety of free and affordable webinars, webcasts and in-person trainings.

Recognition at the “Accreditation with Commendation” level was based on review of CPHCE’s self-study report, evidence of the center’s performance-in-practice and the findings of the accreditation interview. By demonstrating compliance with all 22 accreditation criteria including eight of 16 “commendation criteria,” CPHCE’s accreditation was elevated to Commendation status, extending through December 2022.

In addition to CME credits, CPHCE offers Nursing and Certified Health Education Specialist continuing education contact hours for many of its programs.
