SUNY Cobleskill, UAlbany Partner to Increase Pathways of Success

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 2, 2017) -- Leaders from SUNY Cobleskill and the University at Albany today announced the establishment 33 program-to-program agreements across a broad spectrum of disciplines to provide seamless opportunities for students to continue their studies.

The programs, in areas such as liberal arts and sciences, human development, criminal justice, education, journalism, social welfare, art, music, political science and public administration and policy, allow students taking course credits in identified majors to transfer fluidly from SUNY Cobleskill to the University at Albany.

“These articulation agreements provide clear pathways for our graduates to continue their studies in parallel programs at the University at Albany,” said SUNY Cobleskill President Marion A. Terenzio.

“UAlbany’s broad landscape of excellent, high-demand academic programs puts us in a strong position to provide opportunities for SUNY Cobleskill graduates to pursue a bachelor’s degree,” said UAlbany Interim President James R. Stellar. “Ensuring seamless transfer pathways for students is part of our mission as the region’s public research university, and our academic synergies with Cobleskill make for a very exciting partnership between our institutions.”

For students with associate degrees who meet admission requirements in selected programs, the agreements provide pathways for SUNY Cobleskill graduates to pursue bachelor’s degree programs in several high-need areas, including through UAlbany’s College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity, as well as the School of Education’s human development program. These new opportunities show the expanding offerings on both campuses to offer students academically rigorous programs within the SUNY system.

“These new articulation agreements provide us with an important opportunity to work collaboratively with SUNY Cobleskill to provide all of our students transfer pathways in unique subject areas,” said Jeanette Altarriba, Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education at UAlbany. “Our pathways include programs that are housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Criminal Justice, the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, and the School of Social Welfare.  These inaugural agreements are just the start of our partnership and collaboration with Cobleskill, as our aim is to continue to expand and grow these opportunities over the next several years for the mutual benefit of all of our students.”

Nearly 40 students from SUNY Cobleskill have transferred to the University at Albany in recent years, and this agreement will strengthen the collaborative relationship between the two campuses. Transfer students at the University at Albany make up a third of the incoming class each year, and around 50 percent of the University’s graduating class.
