The University Police Department's K-9 will make another appearance at this year's Fit Fair, set  for 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2017.

ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2017) — What better way to support your goal of staying fit for the New Year than by attending UAlbany’s Spring Fit Fair?

The fair, put on by Campus Recreation, will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, in the Physical Education Gymnasium. It’s designed to promote health and wellness for students, faculty and staff by sharing information about campus and community activities and resources.

“We want students and the UAlbany community to be able to take something from this, to continue to lead healthy lifestyles that support physical, mental and social growth,” said Jessica Blasioli, assistant director of fitness and wellness with the Department of Campus Recreation, part of the Office of Student Affairs.

Equipment demos and group exercise classes return this year to the Fit Fair, which will be held in the PE Gym.

The first Fit Fair was held last year and drew 30 vendors and 200 participants. An additional 15 vendors have already signed up for this year’s fair, and organizers are expecting a bigger turnout.

Campus departments and clubs, and area businesses will have informational tables and interactive stations for participants.

“Many students only think about fitness as being a way to be healthy,” Blasioli said. “This fair acknowledges the other components of wellness: social, environmental, spiritual, mental and emotional, as well as physical activity.”

Business vendors include DiNapoli Opticians, Planned Parenthood, L.L.Bean, Mountain Ridge Adventures, G&G Fitness, Advantage Sport & Fitness and Gym Source among others. On-campus representatives include Campus Recreation, Project SHAPE, Middle Earth Peer Educators, Office of Sustainability, UAlbany Dining, University Police Department and others.

Visitors will have an opportunity to sign up for intermural sports, try out group exercise classes (including power yoga and dance fusion), learn about mental and sexual health resources, and sustainability. UAlbany Dining will have its Blender Bike out, UPD will have “Beer Googles” for people to try on, as well as K9 demonstrations.

And if you need more reasons to go: There will be 10 therapy dogs on hand to pet, T-shirt giveaways, games, raffles and prizes.
