Farewell Message: Dr. Robert J. Jones

19th UAlbany President leaves behind a remarkable record of accomplishment.

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 23, 2016) — Today marks the 1,360th and final day in the tenure of the University at Albany’s 19th president, Dr. Robert J. Jones. These have been, by any assessment, tremendously productive days for the University.

President Jones engineered the largest academic expansion since UAlbany became a research and graduate institution in the early 1960s. During his nearly four years at the helm, the University added two degree-granting colleges — Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity and Engineering and Applied Sciences — and created an enhanced affiliation with Albany Law School, which brought new degree programs, scholarly institutes and scholarship opportunities.

Among his many achievements, President Jones succeeded in enhancing inclusiveness, increasing outreach to the community, improving the student experience and creating a more international student body.

In his farewell message, President Jones expresses his admiration to the UAlbany community for its unwavering support and dedication during his tenure, and said he wishes the campus the very best as it moves forward.
