Football Comes Home, 2-0

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 16, 2016) – With a 2-0 record, including the first FBS win in program history, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding UAlbany Football’s home opener this weekend.

The Great Danes host Holy Cross under the lights of Bob Ford Field at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. All fans in attendance will receive a “Great Gray Out” t-shirt. Limited tickets are still available.

Earning National Recognition:

UAlbany moved into the FCS Top 25 on Monday for the first time since October 2014. The ranking follows two key road victories over 21-point favorite UBuffalo of the Football Bowl Subdivision, 22-16, and CAA Conference rival Rhode Island, 35-7.

The team is tied for first in the nation in turnover margin (+6), with an FCS-high six interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Individually, sophomore running back Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks ranks second in the nation for rushing yards (282) and rushing touchdowns (4).

“To be 2-0 is a big deal. We are playing our style of football right now,” said head coach Greg Gattuso. “Our kids have went out, hustled, and did what we’ve asked of them. It is important to keep that momentum rolling this weekend.”

UAlbany joined the Colonial Athletic Association in 2013 after a 14-year tenure and six championships in the Northeast Conference. Gattuso is in his third season with the Great Danes. He led the team to its first winning CAA record at 7-5 in 2014.
